Christmas

We had a great Christmas this year. On Christmas Eve we made sugar cookies for Santa. The girls had a lot of fun helping me cut and decorate the cookies. Then after the cookies were decorated it was time to read the Nativity story and act it out using our Little People Nativity Set. The girls (mostly Sophie) had a lot of fun being a part of the story and celebrating Jesus' birthday.

Christmas morning was really nice. Sophie and Elanor got up at their usual time, between 7:30 and 8am. We came downstairs (I got a quick shower in before we could come downstairs, morning hair is quite frightful) and the girls were able to open up their stockings.

For breakfast we had the traditional sour dough flapjacks, aka sourdough pancakes. This tradtion is from my family and has been going on for a really long time. Growing up it was us kids who prepared and cleaned-up breakfast. So, once Sophie and Elanor can cook by themselves it will be their task to make breakfast.

After breakfast was all cleaned up it was time to open the rest of the presents. This year we weren't the only ones watching the girls open presents but Grandma Dorothy, Grandpa Ken, Uncle Sam and Aunt Grace joined us via webcams. Thanks for joining in on our fun.
Later in the day, Elanor and I made a birthday cake for Jesus. This is our family tradition, going on year two. Last year Sophie really wanted to make a cake for Jesus because Christmas is his birthday and you get cake on your birthday. So we are going to keep this tradition, so appropriate and helps us really remember why we celebrate Christmas.
