Take 2, the blizzard

Cleaning up from Snowpocalypse took Andrew several days. Not only did he have to dig out 2 cars but he had to do our sidewalk (which is longer than most since we are on the corner) and he dug out the mailbox so our side of the street could get mail. He came in every time looking like the hunch back of Notre Dame, the snow was heavy and plentiful.

After chatting with some neighbors, we decided it was safe for one of us to get out to the store in preparation for the next big storm. I made it to Safeway and back with the essentials, milk and eggs, and some other fresh produce. It is funny to see what was completely out and what was in plenty. No tomatoes but lots of clementines and bananas.

Some of the snow started to melt due to the sun on Monday and Tuesday. The result was icicles dangling from roof tops. Kind of dangerous if one fell.


Tuesday was the beginning of the next big storm. Schools were canceled and so was the Federal government. I think it started snowing around 3 or 4 but just light, fluffy stuff. As the night wore on the snow picked up and the winds picked up speed. By Wednesday we were in a blizzard due to winds that reached 50 mph. We stayed inside were it was nice and warm. The weather people were calling for 10-20inches here, then decreased it to 7-14inches. I really don't know how much we got because the wind just blew it around but I am thinking the low end, maybe 7inches. But that still brings the total to about 37inches for those two storms plus we still had snow from the previous Wednesday and Saturday so the grand total is TOO MUCH. Dulles Airports grand total for the 2009-2010 season is 72.9inches, so I am going to say we've had about the same.

Today was clean up day again. Andrew went out late yesterday afternoon to clear the sidewalks and today's task was to work on the cars and mailbox.

Sophie is on top of the pile closest to our cars. Andrew's bet is that some of these piles will be around until his birthday in May. We will see but I hope he is wrong.


The girls venturing out. Sophie has had a lot of fun playing in the snow, Elanor not so much. Elanor is usually ready to come in within 15minutes of being outside. There is just not much to do when the snow is so high and you are so little.

All we can say is we are ready for Spring and warmer weather. But we feel blessed that we didn't lose our electricity or run out of food. And we are so happy that Charlotte came when she did.
