Day 15: Grade Acceleration (nothing to do with pinterest but I wanted to keep for posterity)
Today was an exciting day for our Sophie, she moved from 1st grade to 2nd mid year. All of the footleg for this grade acceleration was because of her teacher. On day one of school here her 1st grade teacher, Ms Perez, asked me if Sophie was in the gifted program. She had been a gifted teacher and knew the signs. I said no but that was because our school in VA didn't start looking into that until 2nd or 3rd grade but her teacher had mentioned moving her up to 2nd grade. From that point on, Ms Perez took all the initiative in Sophie's testing. There was a 2nd grade teacher who offered to let Sophie go to her class for language arts. It was wonderful to see and we are much appreciative of it. Andrew and I met with Ms Perez, guidance counselor, school psychologist and 2nd grade teacher she saw for language arts to discuss moving Sophie. It was amazing to see all these women say wonderful things about my child and to give us some good advice (we need to figure out how to humble the kid up a little :)). The conclusion from the meeting was to advance her to 2nd grade. We were hoping she would be placed in the 2nd grade teacher's class she was attended part of the day but her class was the largest and they were going by numbers. Sophie is now in a class with a friend from church, so that was nice to have a built in friend. Now she will adjust to her 3rd class and 3rd teacher this school year. Crazy! We are proud of her and pleased that she will be challenged a little bit more.

The humility thing is something that we're trying to figure out with Tyler as well. Been trying to praise effort (hard work) over intelligence (you're so smart). But it's hard when everyone else is saying it.
